Eagles Volleyball Clips Concordia in Straight Sets

Root tallies double-double – 31 assists and 13 digs

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team defeated Concordia 3-0 at the Drubner Center on Wednesday night in convincing fashion 25-15, 25-6, and 25-14 to improve to 13-3 on the year and 5-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. The Eagles also improved to 7-0 at home on the season.

Sophomore Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) led the Eagles with a double-double, 31 assists and 13 digs. Senior Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) smashed 12 kills and classmate Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) had 10 kills and three aces.

The first set was the closest of the night. The Eagles jumped out to a very early 7-2 lead, but the Clippers countered back to tie the game. With the score 15-12 in favor of the Eagles, junior Sarah Ryder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) served Post to a 21-12 lead with two aces and the Eagles did not look back.

In the second it was more of the same, German and Hailey Griffin recorded a team-high three kills each in the set as Post rolled to a 25-6 win.

Post led from start to finish once again in the third set. Two service aced by Root helped propel the Eagles to a 13-5 lead. Concordia cut the deficit to just four points, but the Eagles closed the set on a 10-3 run to win the match.

Post's next match will be on Friday in Wilmington, Del. against Goldey-Beacom. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
