Eagles Volleyball Continues to Protect the Drubner Center, Defeats Holy Family 3-0

Eagles have won 12 straight matches

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University Volleyball team tamed the Lions of Holy Family with its fifth-consecutive three-set victory and 12th-straight win overall on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center Post is now 12-1 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and 22-3 overall.

Senior Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) paved the way toward victory today for Post as she recorded a double-double with a team high 13 kills and 10 digs. Senior Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) led the team with 11 digs and three blocks. Sophomore Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) added 31 assists in the victory.  

In the first set an early 8-2 run helped the Eagles build a lead they would not relinquish. Post maintained a sizeable lead throughout the first before a late rally by Holy Family. With Post in front 24-16, the Tigers rallied off three straight points however an error by Candyce Riley ended the set, 25-19 in favor of the home team.

The Eagles came out of the gates slowly in the second set. Post trailed 4-1 before sophomore Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) helped her team with a 7-1 run, giving the Eagles a 8-5 lead, which they would not look back from. Morgan Griffin finished the set off with a kill that split the center of the court giving Post a 25-17 win.  

Post was given its toughest test in the third set as Holy Family stuck with the CACC North Division leader as the score was 17-16 late in the match. The Eagles found their groove with a 6-1 run that ultimately ended the set and match. The match concluded with an attack error from the visitors as Post took the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.

The Eagles' next match will be on Wednesday, Nov. 2 against CACC North Division rival Bloomfield. The Bears are currently in second place in the division and just a game behind the Eagles. Match will begin at 7 p.m. at home inside the Drubner Center.
