SHELTON, Conn. – Freshman
Julia Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) scored the first-ever goal for the Post University women's ice hockey team, but the Eagles fell to Johnson & Wales 6-1 at the SportsCenter of Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.
With the Eagles down 1-0 in the first period, a blocked shot by freshman
Molly Brumfield (Columbus, Ohio) led to an offensive rush by Post. Schatz redirected a shot by freshman
Kendall Fitzgerald (Kamloops, B.C.) into the back of the net to tie the game 1-1 with 4:15 remaining in the period.
The Wildcats took the lead back just 16 seconds later and never looked back. Johnson & Wales scored twice more in the second and third periods for the final margin.
Freshman
Olivia Dupree (Centerport, N.Y.) led the team with four shots. Schatz and Fitzgerald each won six faceoffs. Freshman goaltender
Samantha Griswold (Park City, Utah) made 54 saves on the day.
Post will get a chance to rest as the Eagles are off until Saturday, Nov. 12 when they visit Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
