Post Women’s Ice Hockey Drops Debut to Becker 5-0

Eagles return to action Saturday at home against Johnson & Wales

SHELTON, Conn. – The Post University women's ice hockey team was defeated by Becker 5-0 at the SportsCenter of Connecticut on Friday afternoon in its first-ever game. The Eagles return home tomorrow against Johnson & Wales.

The Hawks got the scoring going midway through the first period as Brianna Luciani scored a shorthanded goal, her first of two on the day. Two minutes later Claudia Gee found Bailey Coons to put Becker ahead 2-0 after the first.

A power play opportunity at the start of the second period led to four chances for the Eagles, but they were unable to light the lamp. Freshman Kendall Fitzgerald (Kamloops, B.C.) had four of Post's eight shots in the second. Luciani added her second goal of the game to extend the Hawks lead to 3-0.

Becker scored twice in the final period, while the Eagles mustered just three shots.

Freshman Julia Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) won 11 face offs on the afternoon. Freshman goaltender Jenna Baumgartner (Roseau, Minn.) made 42 saves between the pipes.

The Eagles are back at it on Saturday at home against Johnson & Wales. Face off is set for 2 p.m.
