Men’s Soccer Draws With Goldey-Beacom

Eagles sit seventh in conference, can finish as high as second

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with second-place Goldey-Beacom on a cold Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field. With the tie, the Eagles move to 5-7-3 overall and 4-3-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with just two games remaining and sit in seventh place.

The game was played in the middle of the field early on as neither side could gain an advantage offensively. Junior Nicholas Strecker (Uncasville, Conn.) had a strong shot on goal in the 25th minute from the left side of the box but was unable to break the early tie.

Late in the half, junior Kenu Walker (Kingston, Jamaica) beat his defender on a double move and nearly put the Eagles in front as Lightning keeper Suhail Bismilla made a tough save. Post had chances on two late corner kicks but came up empty.

Post had two shots on goal in the second half. Senior Abdallah Bah (St. Paul, Minn.) had the Eagles best chance in the 76th minute but the game remained scoreless after regulation.

Senior Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) came up big in the overtime periods with two saves as Post was outshot 5-0 in extra time. In the first overtime, Hanlon punched a bullet by Artur Zvinchuk over the crossbar and made a diving stop on a shot from Chahin Aghrim late in the final period.

The draw marked the sixth shutout of the year for the Eagles, their most since 2013 and fourth-most all-time. Post has given up just eight goals in CACC play to lead the conference.

The Eagles are in good position to make the CACC Tournament for the 13th consecutive year and will clinch a spot with a win in either of its final two games or a loss or tie by Felician in either of its final two. Post can still finish as high as second place in a tight conference race.
