Eagles Play To Second-Consecutive Scoreless Draw Against Caldwell

Post will host Nyack on Friday in regular season finale

WATERBURY, Conn. – For the second-consecutive game, the Post University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Caldwell at LaMoy Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles are 5-7-4 overall and 4-3-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with one game remaining.

Post will host Nyack on Friday in its regular season finale. A win by the Eagles will clinch the sixth seed in the upcoming conference tournament while a loss or tie will give Post the eighth and seventh seeds, respectively.

The first half was played mostly between the boxes as neither team could muster a shot on goal. In the second half the game opened up and the Eagles outshot the Cougars 9-4 including 4-2 on target.

Post's best opportunity came in the 75th minute as the Eagles were award a penalty kick. Caldwell goalkeeper Fritz Meister stopped the free-kick attempt by sophomore Andre Riello (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and then made a save on a rebound attempt by classmate Matteo Moro (Rome, Italy) to keep the game scoreless.

Junior Nicholas Strecker (Uncasville, Conn.) had a late chance in the 88th minute that went just high. Senior Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) made a stop in the first overtime period, and finished with four saves, to keep the shutout after the Cougars had three consecutive corner kick opportunities.

In the final extra period, Riello struck a strong shot from just inside midfield as the final seconds ticked away, but was turned away by Meister.

The Eagles and Warriors will face off at LaMoy Field at 1 p.m. on Friday.
