Post Men’s Soccer Falls at Felician 3-2 in Overtime

Strecker scores his first goal of the season

LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Post University men's soccer team was defeated at Felician 3-2 in overtime in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup on Wednesday night in Lyndhurst, N.J. The Eagles are 5-7-2 overall and 4-3-2 in conference play with just three games remaining.

Junior Nicholas Strecker (Uncasville, Conn.) put the Eagles on the board very early as he booted in a goal off a long throw in by senior Patrick DeAngelo (Danbury, Conn.) in the third minute. Unfortunately the lead did not last long as Felician answered in the sixth minute to tie the score 1-1.

The Golden Falcons grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 16th minute as Chris McLaughlin took possession in the box and scored. The score would remain into the half. The Eagles had a late chance to tie the game but a header by junior Osman Sillah (Helsinki, Finland) was stopped by the Felician keeper.

Post scored early in the second half to tie the match up 2-2. Senior Armando Filho (Cataguases, Brazil) lofted a long pass into the front corner of the box and a Felician defender and the goalkeeper collided. Sophomore Matteo Moro (Rome, Italy) grabbed the ball and easily scored on the open net.

Moro nearly scored the winner in the 86th minute but a diving save by John Burns kept the game knotted 2-2.

McLaughlin connected on the game-winner just three minutes into the extra period as he received a long pass from the back line and finished for the victory.

Felician held a 13-10 advantage in shots, but the Eagles led 6-5 in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) made two saves on the night.

Post returns home for its final three games of the regular season beginning on Saturday against Goldey-Beacom. Game time at LaMoy Field is set for 2:30 p.m.
