Eagles Volleyball Cruises Past Caldwell

Four Eagles Tally Double-Digit Kills

Waterbury, Conn.- The Post University volleyball team took down the Caldwell Cougars in four sets at the Drubner Center, 25-21, 25-27, 25-18, 25-22. Post is now 8-1 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and 16-3 overall while Caldwell falls to 5-4 in the CACC and 12-9 overall.

Post had a slight advantage in the middle of the first set 13-12 before a pair of kills by senior Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) and an attack error by the visitors helped the Eagles stretch their lead to four. Each team traded blows until the end of the set as sophomore Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) dumped the ball over the net for the final kill.

The Eagles found themselves down 24-20 in the second set until a five-point run put them ahead 25-24. Sophomore Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had two kills during the comeback. Caldwell scored the final two point to tie the match 1-1.

The third set was one of runs. Post started the with a quick 3-0 outburst followed by a 5-0 Caldwell run. The Cougars led 5-3 and then the Eagles went on a 9-1 run putting themselves comfortably in the lead. A pair of errors by Caldwell at the end of the set helped the Eagles to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.

Caldwell came out in the fourth set doing all they could to stay afloat in the match however they were no match for Seger and German who combined for eight. German picked up her points in the early going and Seger closed the match out with three of the final four points.

Root put up a team high 49 assists and 15 digs. Senior Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) was one of four Eagles with double-digit kills, leading the squad with 15. German and Seger each added 14 kills. Senior Morgan Griffin (Plainfield Conn.) led the team with two aces.

The Eagles' next match will be on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Drubner Center against Georgian Court. Match will begin at 3 p.m.
