WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team dropped a tough Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup on Wednesday afternoon 75-73 to Chestnut Hill. The Eagles led by as many as 12 points in the first half and nearly mounted a late comeback.
With under a minute left in the game and Post down 72-68, sophomore
Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) was fouled shooting a three from the top of the arc. He made two of his three free-throw attempts to pull the Eagles within two points. Chestnut Hill split a pair of free throws on the other end.
Junior
Malcolm Amos (Brookville, Ill.) missed an attempt to tie the game with 20 seconds remaining and Post was forced to foul once again. The Griffins made one of two from the line as the Eagles trailed 74-70. Freshman
Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) kicked a pass out to Desrosiers behind the arc and the sophomore nailed the jumper to cut the deficit to 74-73 with 2.2 seconds remaining. After Chestnut Hill split another pair of free throws, Post's last-second heave fell short.
Early on it looked as though Post was going to run the Griffins out of the gym as the Eagles went 7-of-9 over the first 4:05 of the game to take an early 15-5 lead. Post continued to keep the pressure on Chestnut Hill in the first half and Amos nailed a close range jumper midway through the period to give the Eagles their largest lead of the game at 21-9.
Post had an answer every time the Griffins scored and led by no less than seven the rest of the period. Sophomore
Jah'sheme Ringgold (Easton, Md.) had seven points in just nine minutes as the Eagles led 34-26 at halftime.
Chestnut Hill shot 61.5 percent in the second half as they used an 11-4 run to open the period to cut the lead down to 41-37. The Eagles built their lead back up to six points before the Griffins rolled off a 10-0 run to take the lead for good.
Desrosiers led a trio of Eagles in double digits with 17 points and a season-high five assists. Ringgold added 15 points, five rebounds and a steal. Okros filled the score sheet with 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Post will look to rebound on Saturday as it hosts another CACC South foe in Goldey-Beacom. Tip-off at Drubner is set for 3 p.m.
