BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Three Eagles finished in double figures as the Post University men's basketball team defeated Concordia 73-72 on Thursday night in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division road contest. Post now sits in second place in a tight division race.
Sophomore
Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Eagles. Freshman
Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) also put up 21 points to go with a team-high five assists. Sophomore
Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) scored 16 points.
The Eagles led by as many as six in the early part of the first half. A three-pointer by Concordia with 11:27 left in the period gave the home squad its first lead of the game. Desrosiers answered right back with a three of his own as Post grabbed a 16-15 advantage.
The teams traded buckets from there as the half featured nine lead changes. Junior
Damani Ashton (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) nailed a three late to tie the game 30-30. The Eagles would grab the lead on its next possession before the Clippers scored the final points of the half to pull ahead 35-32 at halftime.
Post came out of the break hot as it made five of its first seven shots to spark a 12-3 run and take a 44-38 advantage. Senior
David Seymour (Amityville, N.Y.) nailed a three after a Concordia turnover to give the Eagles their largest lead of the game at 53-44 with 12:31 left.
The Clippers slowly chipped away at the deficit and eventually tied the score 67-67 with 4:04 remaining. Mareno made a second-chance layup next time down the floor and Post took back the lead for good.
The Eagles turned the ball over just eight times on the night, their seventh games of the season with single-digit turnovers.
Post closes out its road trip on Saturday afternoon at Georgian Court. Tip-off in Lakewood, N.J. is set for 3 p.m.
