Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) the Post University men's basketball team defeated Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division foe Wilmington 95-86 in overtime on Tuesday night.
Tyaire Ponzo-Meek converted on a three-point play with less than a minute left in regulation to put Wilmington ahead 75-71. On the Eagles' next possession, sophomore
Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) pulled down the rebound on his own missed three and kicked it out to senior
David Seymour (Amityville, N.Y.) who nailed a jumper to cut the deficit to one with 34 seconds left.
A foul by Wilmington with 19 seconds left put sophomore
Joseph Lockwood (London, England) at the line. Lockwood made one of two, tying the score at 75-75. Ponzo-Meek missed a game-winning attempt as time expired.
The Eagles outscored Wilmington 20-11 in the extra period. Desrosiers hit a three-pointer out of the gate and Post never looked back. He finished with 21 points on the night. Okros scored the next two times down the floor as the Eagles opened an 82-75 lead in overtime. Post was 13-of-18 from the free-throw line in the closing minutes to grab the road victory.
Post held a 24-19 lead in the first half before an 18-3 run by Wilmington put the home team in front by 10, the largest lead for either team, with 3:30 left in the half. The Eagles closed the period on a 10-2 run to grab momentum heading into the break.
Wilmington led early in the second half until a three by junior
Malcolm Amos (Brookport, Ill.) put the Eagles in front 52-51. The Wildcats grabbed the lead back with just under 10 minutes remaining an held on until Lockwood's late free-throw.
Sophomore
Jah'sheme Ringgold (Easton, Md.) scored 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Amos scored 12 points and Seymour added 11 points. Lockwood grabbed 10 boards to go with eight points.
The win is the Eagles second overtime victory of the year as they defeated LIU-Post 81-77 in November. Post pulled down a season-high 49 rebounds and won the battle on the boards 49-40.
Post returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 23 at home against Philadelphia. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
