NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Post University men's soccer team battled all day, but fell short 4-3 against #15 Merrimack on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles are now 1-1 on the young season.
Senior
Tiago Martins (Lamas de Olo, Portugal) put Post in front 1-0 in the 16
th minute on a goal off a corner by sophomore
Armando Filho (Cataguases, Brazil). The corner was initially touched by senior
Jacob Butler-Bowdon (Adelaide, Australia) who found Martins for the score. The Eagles would take the advantage into the break.
Merrimack tied the score on a penalty kick in the 51
st minute and took the lead on a free kick from the top of the box by Julio Leon Garcia. Post knotted the score just 18 seconds later as junior
Abdallah Bah (Kenema, Sierra Leone) booted it home on a free kick from 30 yards out.
In the 79
th minute, the Warriors grabbed the lead back on a goal by Michael Dushman. The Eagles would not go down easy as graduate student
Anthony Asante (Bronx, N.Y.) scored off a throw-in by Butler-Bowdon in the 84
th minute to tie the score. Garcia scored his second of the day less than two minutes later for the difference.
Post was outshot 13-5 on the day, but each team had four shots in the second period. The Eagles scored on all three of their shots on goal, while keeper
Serigne Baba Gaye (Dakar, Senegal) made three saves.
The Eagles tough schedule continues as they visit #7 Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday at 7:30.
