WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post women's volleyball team had its 10-match Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win streak snapped on Saturday as it suffered a 3-1 loss against Wilmington at the Drubner Center. The Eagles are now 10-5 and 3-1 in CACC play.
Senior
Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) led Post with 16 kills on the afternoon. Senior
Kristine Ripson (Youngstown, N.Y.) added 13 kills and four blocks.
The Eagles 25-19 in the first set as they trailed from start to finish. Freshman
Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made an ace to cut the Wildcats' lead to 7-6 early. Down 17-11, Post cut the deficit to 18-16 with help from two Ripson blocks but were unable to get any closer.
Post fell behind 11-6 in the second set before a 7-1 run gave the Eagles the lead for good. Griffin and Ripson each had two kills during the comeback. The duo combined for five more kills down the stretch as Post tied the match with a 25-19 victory.
Wilmington jumped in front 7-3 in the third set. The Eagles chipped away at the lead and tied the score at nine after an error by the Wildcats. From there, Wilmington scored three points in a row and never trailed by more than two the rest of the way as it took the set 25-21. Freshman
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) had 11 of her game-high 43 assists and two kills in the set.
Post went ahead 2-0 to start the final set, but couldn't keep it going as Wilmington came away with a 25-12 win to take the match.
The loss was the Eagles first at home this season. Root led the Eagles with 13 digs. Senior
Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) added 12 digs.
Post is on the road at Nyack Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
