WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's soccer team lost a tough match at home on Saturday afternoon 1-0 against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Chestnut Hill. The Eagles outshot the Griffins 22-7 on the day.
"Today was a difficult loss. We played one of our best games of the year and created loads of chances, but couldn't finish. That's just how it goes sometimes in this game," said head coach
Ted Haley.
The Eagles created chances and pressured the Chestnut Hill defense all day. Freshman
Andre Riello (Sao Paolo Brazil) had two early shots on goal.
The Griffins got on the board in the 30
th minute. Nicholas Jaffe booted a free kick from 30 yards out past a diving
Serigne Baba Gaye (Dakar, Senegal). Senior
Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.) had a shot on target late in the half but was unable to finish.
Post continued to have chances in the second half. Senior
Francisco Sastre (Sao Paolo, Brazil) was just wide on a shot from close range in the 61
st minute.
Sophomore
Stefan Tomasevic (London, England) nearly connected on a header in the 73
rd minute. Sastre also had a chance late in the game on a free kick from just outside the box that was blocked by the defense.
"I told the guys to stay positive because we have tons of quality on this team and the wins will come. We are really looking forward to Tuesday against Caldwell," added Haley.
Sastre led Post with five shots. Riello had four chances, all on goal.
Post returns to action at Caldwell on Tuesday. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
