WATERBURY, Conn. – Behind a career-best 27 kills by junior
Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) the Post University volleyball team defeated Caldwell 3-1 at the Drubner Center on Thursday night. The Eagles dropped the first set 25-17, but bounced back to take the final three 25-19, 25-13, and 25-15.
Post never got into a rhythm in the first set as Caldwell led from start to finish. With the score tied 3-3 in the second set, German smashed a kill to spark a 5-0 run and the Eagles never trailed the rest of the set. Caldwell cut the deficit to three at 10-6, but junior
Kerrin Kallmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) scored two straight kills to extend the Post lead. Freshman
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) faked out the defense for the final point of the set to tie the match 1-1.
The Eagles dominated the final two sets and led by double-digits in each. Post took control of the third set with a 13-2 run after an early tie. German and senior
Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) each had three kills during the run.
The story was the same in the final set. Caldwell pulled ahead 6-4 early, but a kill by junior
Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) put the Eagles in control as they reeled off a 12-2 run and never looked back. Senior
Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) held serve for seven straight points. Sophomore
Cassandra Drogan (Dover Plains, N.Y.) had two consecutive aces late in the set.
Post improves to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. The Eagles have won seven straight matches at home and nine straight conference matches.
German hit an impressive .605 on the night and added 13 digs.
Hailey Griffin had 12 kills and a team-high 17 digs. Root added 52 assists and 10 digs. Brown was stellar up front with two solo blocks and six assists.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday afternoon at home against Goldey-Beacom. First serve at Drubner is set for 1 p.m.
