Volleyball Defeats Southern New Hampshire 3-2 On Griffin’s Career Day

Post Extends Home Win Streak To Seven

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University volleyball team extended its home winning streak to seven games on Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over Southern New Hampshire. Junior Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) led the Eagles with 21 kills, while senior Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) added a career-high 20 kills and 12 digs.

Post held a 2-1 lead in the match but dropped the fourth set 25-19. In the fifth set, neither team led by more than two points throughout. With the score tied at 7-7, freshman Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) smashed home a kill to put the Eagles in front for good. Senior Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) aced the ensuing serve to force an SNHU timeout. The teams traded points down the stretch until Post scored the final two to secure the win.

The Eagles lost the first set 25-19, but rebounded by taking the next two by scores of 25-17 and 25-20. In the second set Post started strong, opening a 12-5 lead. Hailey Griffin and German each had three kills as Post built the advantage. The Penmen only got as close as four the rest of the way.

Southern New Hampshire controlled the early part of the third set and led 16-13. The Eagles scored four straight from there to take the lead and ended the match on a 12-4 run. German launched a kill after an ace by junior Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) to give Post the set.

The visitors never trailed in the fourth set. Post tied the score at 13-13 but was unable to grab control.

CACC Player of the Week, Morgan Griffin had 11 kills and three aces for Post. Freshman Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) put up 61 assists and had nine digs. Alvarez added 29 digs as the Eagles improved to 6-4.

Post is back at home on Thursday in a rematch of last year's CACC Championship match against Caldwell. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
