Eagles Split Again on Final Day of Charger Invitational

Morgan Griffin Named To All-Tournament Team

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Post University volleyball team got off to a great start on Saturday afternoon at the Charger Invitational with a 3-1 victory over Queens. The Eagles were defeated by Assumption 3-2 in their second match of the day. Junior Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) was named to the All-Tournament team for efforts during the two-day event.

Post 3, Queens 1 (25-8, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21)
Everything was working for the Eagles in the first set as they cruised to a 25-8 victory. Junior Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) led Post with four kills during the set.

Post scored the first four points of the second set capped by a kill by freshman Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and never looked back. Senior Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) and junior Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) blocked a Queens attack to give Post its largest lead of the set at 21-12.

The Eagles looked like they were going to run away with the match after jumping in front 10-1 in the third. Morgan Griffin had two kills and an ace to help build the lead. The Knights went on a 14-3 run from there and never trailed again.

Neither team led by more than two early in the final set. With the score tied 18-18, Post went on a 6-2 run to reach match point. German smashed home a kill to seal the victory.

German had 13 kills and three aces. Brown added seven block assists and five kills. Seger recorded eight kills and a team-high four aces.

Assumption 3, Post 2 (24-26, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16, 12-15)

The Eagles let another set slip away in the second as Post held a 21-19 lead after senior Kristine Ripson (Youngstown, N.Y.) scored a kill. The Greyhounds scored four straight before kills by Ripson and Brown tied the set 23-23.

With the teams tied at 20 in the third set, the Eagles scored four straight points on two kills by Morgan Griffin, an ace by sophomore Cassandra Drogan (Dover Plains, N.Y.), and a block by German and Seger. Assumption scored twice before German ended the set with a kill.
