Eagles’ Second-Half Comeback Falls Short At #9 Molloy

Lommer and Blackman Each Score Three Goals

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Down as many as six goals the Post University men's lacrosse team cut the deficit to two against #9 Molloy on Wednesday night, but its comeback fell short in a 13-10 road defeat.

Junior Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) won the opening faceoff and quickly raced to score the first of his team-high three goals. Molloy controlled the rest of the quarter as it jumped in front 6-1. Freshman Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) hit junior Chris Lommer (Lancaster, N.Y.) for a score in the final minute of the quarter. The Lions outshot the Eagles 18-6 in the opening period.

Post outshot Molloy 29-19 the remainder of the game as it battled back. Blackman and Lommer each scored for the Eagles in the second, but the Lions added three and led 9-4 at the break.

After allowing an early score in the third, the Eagles began its comeback. Sophomores Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) and Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) scored back-to-back for Post to make the score 10-6.

Molloy scored once again, but the Eagles cut the deficit to its closest in the second half with three straight goals. Blackman picked up one of his eight ground balls after a shot by Post and beat the keeper with 6:48 left in the third. Sophomore John Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) assisted on the next goal as Lommer scored his third. Junior Colby Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) made the score 11-9 on a score with 2:21 remaining.

Senior Brian Beatson (Falls Church, Va.) scored the Eagles' final tally with 9:49 left in the game.

Buchas had two caused turnovers and a ground ball. The Eagles turned the ball over 16 times, its second-lowest total of the season.

Post returns to action on Saturday, April 11 in a neutral-site game at Musselman Stadium in Gettysburg, Pa. against Walsh. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
