Eagles Close Out Regular Season With Loss To SCSU

Gaertner Has Three Hits

New Haven, Conn. - The Post University baseball team dropped its regular season finale to Southern Connecticut State University, 10-1 on Thursday afternoon.

The Eagles finished up their season 20-16 overall, and 15-5 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

SCSU was able to get on the board early, scoring one run in both the first and second innings and two runs in the third off of Post starter, freshman Joseph Enderle (Hicksville, N.Y.).

No one would score again until the Eagles got on the board in the top of the seventh, as senior Rob Gaertner (Wantagh, N.Y.) drove junior Julio Velazquez (Bronx, N.Y.) with an RBI single to second base.

Gaertner finished the day 3-for-5 with an RBI. As a team, the Eagles finished with five hits.

However, the Owls would blow the game open in the bottom of the seventh, as SCSU's Julian Sobin drove in two runs with a single. After scoring another run on an error, Jake DeRosa hit a two-rin double to put the game away.

Enderle finished the game with six innings pitched, giving up four runs - one earned - on five hits and four walks while striking out four.

The Owls used seven pitchers. Austin Brochu was credited with the win.
