Eagles Stun Wilmington; Earn No. 2 Seed

Eagles Win In Walk-Off Fashion In Game One

Waterbury, Conn. - A two-run rally in the ninth in game one, and an offensive onslaught in game two gave the Post University baseball team its most impressive wins of the season, as it swept Wilmington, who was previously undefeated in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.

With the two wins, the Eagles are now the No. 2 seed in the CACC and receive a first round bye. They are currently 20-15 overall and 15-5 in the CACC. Wilmington falls to 30-12 overall and 18-2 in the CACC.

In game one, the Eagles fell behind 3-1 before scoring a run in the eighth and two in the ninth for the win.

Post fell behind early as Josh Swirchak of Wilmington hit a sac fly to score a run in the top of the first inning off of starting sophomore Evan Devico (Waterbury, Conn).

The Eagles would answer in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single by senior Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) that scored freshman Maxime Robillard (Blainville, Quebec) who doubled to start the inning.

Wilmington would get two runs back in the seventh off of Devico after Frank Samluk hit an RBI triple followed by an RBI single from Christian Adorno scored Samluk.

Devico finished his day, pitching seven innings, giving up three runs, on seven hits, two walks and striking out one.

Post would start its rally in the eighth, as junior Brian McKenna (New York, N.Y.) would walk, reach second on a single from Robillard, then score on a double by Joey Picone. However, with Robbilard on third with one out, the Eagles weren't able to get him home.

With the Eagles down 3-2, sophomore Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.) started the rally with a one out single off of reliever Tyler Fries. He advanced to second on a wild pitch. freshman Luke Leonardi (Holbrook, N.Y.) then belted a triple to right center to score  Deangelis. After Leonardi was relieved on the bases by junior Julio Velazquez (Bronx, N.Y.), McKenna (New York, N.Y.) hit a ball between shortstop and third base, causing a collision between the infielders to score Velazquez and give Post the walk-off win.

Senior Rob Gaertner (Wantagh, N.Y.) would get the win as he was solid in relief, and receive the win, striking out one and giving up two hits.

In game two, the Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead, including scoring five-runs in the fifth to give the Eagles the 8-3 win.

Post would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the third as junior Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) singled to right to score Robillard before Leonardi doubled to bring Rodriguez home.

In the fifth, Rodriguez would again jumpstart the rally, as his double to center field scored Pastor, who had singled with one out. Leonardi would follow with a single and Deangelis would walk before junior Jeff Thoburn (Saint-Lazare, Quebec) came up.

On the sixth pitch of his at-bat, Thoburn laced a bases clearing triple to right-center to give the Eagles a 6-0 lead, effectively putting the game out of reach. Post would add one more run in the fifth as freshman Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) hit a ball that was misplayed at second base to allow Thoburn to score.

Wilmington would get a run in the sixth and two in the eighth, but that would be it.

Robillard would drive McKenna in on a sac fly in the eighth for the Eagles' last run.

Freshman starter Troy Terzi (Wallingford, Conn.) was solid on the mound, pitching 7.2 innings, giving up three runs, one earned on six hits. He struck out five.

Ray Gambone got the loss for Wilmington. He pitched 4.1 innings, giving up seven runs - six earned - on 11 hits and two walks.
