History
Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University baseball team dominated on both sides of the ball and easily swept Bloomfield in a doubleheader, 7-1 and 10-4 at Municipal Stadium on Thursday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tilt.
The two wins pushed the Eagles winning streak to five on the season and puts them at 17-14 on the season and 12-4 in the CACC and, most importantly, clinches a spot in the CACC playoffs with four CACC games remaining.
In game one, grad student
Zach Batchelor (Monroe Township, N.J.) pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and freshmen
Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) and
Maxime Robillard (Blainville, Quebec) each had two hits and two runs scored en route to the 7-1 win.
Post scored two runs in the third as senior Â
Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) hit a ball to center that was misplayed that allowed sophomore
Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) and Robillard to score.
The Eagles would score two more in the fifth as Robillard's single was misplayed on the throw, allowing reigning back-to-back CACC rookie of the week
Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) to score. Pastor would then drive in Robillard with a single. A wild pitch would score Walsh in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 5-0 game.
Junior
Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) would get in on the action as he doubled home Pastor in the seventh to make it a 6-0 game before a sac fly by junior
Brian McKenna (New York, N.Y.) would score Walsh to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
Bloomfield would score its lone run in the ninth.
Game Two In game two sophomore
Evan Devico (Waterbury, Conn.) had 13 strikeouts and sophomore
Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.) was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored as the Eagles coasted to a 10-4 win.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Eagles tied the game up in the third on an RBI single by Robillard that scored Deangelis to tie the game. Robillard would score Deangelis again on a fielder's choice in the fifth to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead. A groundout by Picone would then score McKenna.
Bloomfield would get a run back in the sixth on an RBI single by Harry Monter, but the bats of the Eagles would come alive in the bottom half of the sixth.
With one out, Walsh and junior
Jeff Thoburn would hit back to back singles and would be driven home by Deangelis to give the Eagles a 5-2 lead. Deangelis would then steal second and be driven home by Wright on a double. Wright would then score on an error in the outfield off of the bat of Robillard.
The Eagles would load the bases after a walk to Thoburn and walks to McKenna and Wright to bring up Robillard. Robillard would fly out to drive home Thoburn, but a throwing error allowed McKenna and Wright to score.
The Bears would add one more run in the ninth.Â
