Post Men’s Lacrosse Falls To Southern New Hampshire, 11-6

Nichols Jr. Scores Twice For Eagles

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's lacrosse team was defeated by Southern New Hampshire 11-6 at LaMoy Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles are now 5-8 on the season with just one game remaining.

The Penman went ahead to begin the game with a goal at the 9:28 mark of the first. The visitors won the ensuing face-off but junior Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) forced a turnover and the Eagles cleared the ball. Freshman Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) took a running shot and beat the keeper to tie the score.

Nichols added another score early in the second quarter after Post took over possession after a face-off violation. Southern New Hampshire answered back and led 6-2 midway through the quarter.  Sophomore Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) found freshman Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) on a pass from behind the net for Hanlon's first goal of the season. The Penman would lead 8-3 at halftime.

Neither team could break through in the third quarter. Junior goalkeeper Rob Rohan (East Islip, N.Y.) came in for Post and stopped all seven shots he faced in the period. Junior Colby Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) caused a turnover and took the ball the distance to score the only goal of the quarter with 1:05 left.

Post scored twice in the fourth but was unable to mount a comeback. Out of a timeout, sophomore Kyle Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) hit Buchas for a goal. Blackman also added a late score.

The Eagles goalkeepers combined to make 24 saves on the day, led by Rohan with 15 stops. Blackman had five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Post will play its final game of the regular season on Saturday, April 25 at home against Chestnut Hill. The team will celebrate its five seniors with a short ceremony at halftime. Opening face-off is set for 1 p.m.
