Eagles And Clippers Split Doubleheader

Eagles Have 16 Hits In Game Two

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University baseball team came back from a 5-1 deficit and six players had two or more hits, as it defeated the Concordia Clippers, 14-9 in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon in Municipal Stadium in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game. The Eagles dropped the first game, 11-1.

The Eagles now stand at 13-14 overall and 8-4 in the CACC.

After falling behind 1-0 after the top of the first in game two, freshman Maxime Robillard (Blainville, Quebec) singled to the pitcher to tie the game, 1-1.

Concordia would regain the lead in the top of the second with three runs and one more in the third on a solo home run by Cristian Fiorito.

The Eagles would begin mounting their comeback in the third inning as junior Erik Rodriguez (Miami, (Fla.) drove in sophomore Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) on a groundout.

Post's bats came alive in the first inning. After single by sophomore Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.) and freshman Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) to start the inning, Robillard would strike again two batters later, driving in Deangelis. A sac fly from Picone would score Emigholz to make it a 5-4 game before senior Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) drove in Robillard with a double to tie the game, chasing starter Thomas Burke from the game. Doug Elser came in to relieve, but was met by a triple from Rodriguez that scored Pastor, giving the Eagles the lead for the first time in the game, 6-5.
A sac fly in the bottom of the fifth by reigning CACC Rookie of the Week, Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) gave the Eagles a 7-5 lead before Concordia tied the game with two runs in the sixth, off of reliever, freshman Nick Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.). Evan Devico started the game for the Eagles, going five innings, giving up five runs – three earned – on eight hits and three walks. He also struck out four.

The Eagles would immediately regain the lead in the bottom of the sixth and take the lead for good as a triple from Pastor scored Picone before scoring on a wild pitch, making it a 9-7 game.

Concordia would get a run back in the seventh, but a two-run single by Jeff Thoburn would seal it for the Eagles, making it 11-8 in the bottom of the eighth. The Eagles would score three more runs that inning on a sac fly from freshman Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.), a wild pitch, and an RBI double from Wright.

Arnold was credited for the win, pitching four innings, giving up four earned runs on ten hits and a walk. He also struck out four.

Deangelis finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Pastor was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Wright, Rodriguez and Thoburn all had three RBI. Junior Brian McKenna (New York, N.Y.) also scored two runs.
