Esque Dominant As Post Splits With Chestnut Hill

Junior Throws 12.0 Innings of Shutout Ball

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Junior Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) of the Post University softball team threw 12.0 shutout innings and struck out 14 as the Eagles split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Chestnut Hill on Sunday. Post improves to 16-12 overall and 10-4 in conference play.

Game One: Post 4, Chestnut Hill 0
Esque had it going from the start of the day as she allowed just one hit and struck out 11 in game one to earn her team-high seventh win of the season. The Eagles threatened in the fourth after a leadoff double by freshman Korie McDonald (Middleboro, Mass.). She advanced to third with no outs after a single by junior Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.), but was stranded there as the next three batters flew out.

Kresley drew a walk to start the sixth. Sophomore Kathryn Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) singled to right center and Kresley scored on the throw. Freshman Amanda Ely (Pittsfield, Mass.) came in to pinch run for Dawson and came home on an error by the catcher to put the Eagles in front 2-0.

Freshman Aja DeGrauw (Shirley, N.Y.) and sophomore Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) each scored on wild pitches in the seventh. Seven different Eagles had hits in the game. The Griffins' lone hit came on a triple in the third.

Game Two: Chestnut Hill 2, Post 1
Chestnut Hill scored in the first after a ground-rule double by Jaden Perillo brought home a run. After a hit by pitch to start the second, Esque came in to relieve senior Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) Sofia Cedrone singled home the second Griffins' run to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) reached second on an error by the centerfielder with one out in the fourth. She came home for the lone Post run on a single by freshman Nicole Venturini (Scituate, R.I.).

In the seventh, Venturini got to second to leadoff after an error by the second baseman. Ely pintch ran and was thrown out trying to steal third to end the threat.

Post returns home on Monday, April 13 against Concordia. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
