Eagles Split With Mercy

Bats Come Alive In Game One

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University baseball team split a doubleheader with Mercy in an out-of-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.

Post won the first game, 6-4, and dropped the second game, 4-1.

Post now stands at 12-13 and are 7-3 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Game 1
Post used a four-run fifth inning to help propel them to the 6-4 win in game one.

The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead early on a Joey Picone single that scored freshman Maxime Robillard in the first inning.

Mercy would answer in the top of the second after a wild pitch from sophomore Joseph Enderle (Hicksville, N.Y.) plated a run for Mercy in the top of the second. The Mavericks would score two more in the third after an RBI double by Scott Hagen and an RBI single from Joseph Gismondi.

However, the bats would come alive after a triple from freshman Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) scored classmate Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.). Wright would then score on a wild pitch from Mercy starter Christian Hock. Freshman Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) would then knock in sophomore Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) and Robillard. A sacrifice fly from sophomore Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.) scoring freshman Trey Fitzgerald (Jupiter, Fla.) would give the Eagles an insurance run in the sixth.

Mercy would add one more run in the top of the ninth for the final tally.

Enderle pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits and three walks, while striking out three. He earned the win and is 2-0 on the season. Senior Dean White (Bethel, Conn.) earned his first save.

Game Two
In game two, Mercy scored four unanswered runs for the 4-1 win, which was a seven inning scheduled game.

The Eagles lone run came in the third as a ball hit by Wright went through second baseman's Sal Palumbo's legs to score junior Julio Velazquez (Bronx, N.Y.), who tripled.

Mercy scored in the fourth on an error by Fitzgerald at third base to tie the game, 1-1.

The Mavericks took a 2-1 lead on the sixth as Justin Palladino hit an RBI single off of starting freshman Troy Terzi (Wallingford, Conn.). In the seventh, Justin Echevarria scored on a throwing error by junior Brian McKenna (Bridgeport, Conn.) while stealing third. The Mavericks would add another insurance run in the seventh on an RBI double by Palumbo.

Terzi gave up four runs – two earned – on six hits and three walks while striking out six in 6.2 innings.
