Eagles Sweep Georgian Court in CACC Doubleheader

Post Improves to 9-3 in CACC

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team swept Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 11. The Eagles improve to 9-3 in conference play, and 15-11 overall.

Game One – Post 4, Georgian Court 1
Junior Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) pitched seven strong innings and allowed just one run over three hits. Esque struck out eight on her way to her sixth win of the season.

The Griffins struck first when Hardiman launched a solo shot to center field in the second. The Eagles answered with two in the bottom-half of the inning when sophomore Kathryn Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) scored and junior Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) collected the go-ahead RBI.

Post tacked on two more insurance runs in the sixth when first-year Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) doubled to center field and scored junior Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.). First-year Amanda Ely (Pittsfield, Mass.) crossed home when Marissa Cammarano (Bedford, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice to shortstop. The Eagles held off the Griffins for a 4-1 victory.

Game Two – Post 7 Georgian Court 6
Senior Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) got the start in the circle for the Eagles in game two. Derby lasted 2.1 innings and gave up four runs on six hits.

Schaffer come on in relief and pitched 4.2 innings and allowed two runs (none earned) on one hit to earn her fourth win of the season.

The Eagles posted one in the first and three in the second inning. Schaffer contributed to her cause with a RBI single up the middle to ignite the Eagle offense. Iacomini, Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.), and Korie McDonald (Middleboro, Mass.) served base hits to collect RBIs.

Georgian Court pushed four across in the third inning to even the score at 4-4, but the Eagles reclaimed the lead in the fourth when Schaffer delivered a double to right field and Dawson singled to collect RBIs. Lennox reached on an error by the Griffin shortstop to open the Eagle lead to 7-5.

Georgian Court threatened with a run in the seventh, but Schaffer and the Eagle defense kept the Griffins from doing any more damage.

On Deck: The action continues on Sunday, Apr. 12 when the Eagles travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to do battle with CACC-opponent Chestnut Hill College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
