Eagles Sweep Felician

Fitzgerald's Bat, Costello's Arm Big In Game Two

Waterbury, Conn., – Two solid pitching performances propelled the Post University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Felician on Saturday afternoon, 4-3 and 8-2 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at Municipal Stadium in the first home games of the season for the Eagles.
The Eagles are now 11-12 overall and 7-3 in the CACC.

In game one, an RBI single by freshman Maxime Robillard (Blainville, Quebec) gave the Eagles the lead for good in the sixth inning and closer Nick Arnold pitched three innings of scoreless relief gave the Eagles the 4-3 win.

The first two innings saw both teams exchange runs. In the bottom of the first, senior Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) drew a bases loaded walk to score freshman Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.), giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Felician responded with a Matt Kleinstein RBI single in the top of the second to tie the game, 1-1.
Back-to-back RBI doubles by junior Brian McKenna (New York, N.Y.) and Wright gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Felician would score two runs off of senior Don Crook (Meriden, Conn.) in the sixth, scoring on an RBI double from Brennan Price and an RBI single from Andrew LaMura, tying the game, 3-3.

In the bottom half of the sixth, the Eagles took advantage of shoddy defense from Felician as  freshman Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) reached on an error and advanced to second on a wild pitch before reaching third on another error by Felician's Branden Shaw off the bat of Wright. It set the table for Robillard who singled to left for the eventual game-winning run.

Crook (3-3) received the win, pitching six innings and giving up three runs – all earned – on seven hits and three walks while striking out three.
Grad student Mike Costello (Manassas, Va.) pitched eight phenomenal innings and the Eagles used a five-run fifth to give them the win in game two.
Post was already up 1-0 before their bats produced one of their best innings of the season in the bottom of the third. After a walk from Wright, who then advanced on a wild pitch, Robillard came up again in a big spot like he did in game one and drove in Wright for a 2-0 lead. A double from sophomore Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) put runners on second and third, but Robillard was caught in no man's land as freshman Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) hit a ball to third and a tag was placed on Robillard as he scattered back to the bag. The next batter, Pastor, would walk before freshman Trey Fitzgerald (Jupiter, Fla.) came up with the big three-run bases-clearing double to give the Eagles the 5-0 lead.

The Eagles would score their final run in the inning on a triple from McKenna that scored Fitzgerald.

Felician would score two runs in the fifth on an RBI triple from Kleinstein and an RBI single from Jason Polgano.

Post would get those runs back in the bottom half of the fifth after Wright's two-run single scored Emigholz and McKenna.

Wright finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Fitzgerald finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Pastor was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Costello gave up two earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven.
