Women’s Lacrosse Drops Opener To AIC

Baez and Young Score Twice For Post

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team was defeated 17-7 by American International in its season opener on Monday afternoon at LaMoy Field. Senior Eryka Baez (Clifton, N.J.) and sophomore Shannon Young (Centereach, N.Y.) each scored twice for the Eagles.

The Yellow Jackets scored right out of the gate. Post answered quickly to tie the score 1-1. Freshman Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) caused a turnover and cleared the ball back into the Eagles' offensive zone. Senior Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) beat the keeper with 28:35 left in the first half.

American International won the ensuing draw and scored again. After a timeout by the Eagles, Young scored her first of the day off a pass from Baez to tie the game 2-2. The Yellow Jackets took control from there with 10 straight goals before junior Jordyn Woltmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) ended the run with 22 seconds left in the half as Post trailed 12-3 at the break.

The visitors scored three more times to start the second half. Baez scored her first of the game on a free-position attempt with 15:55 remaining in the game. She added another minutes later to make the score 15-5. Rodriguez found Young for a goal with 10:52 remaining. Junior Isatu Bangura (Elmont, N.Y.) beat the keeper with under a minute left for the final Post score.

Each team had 30 ground balls on the afternoon, Baez led the Eagles with seven. Polaski caused a game-high four turnovers. Graduate student Kathy Walker (Dorchester, Mass.) made 13 saves for Post.

The Eagles return to action in a non-conference matchup against Caldwell on Friday, March 13. Game time is set for noon.
