Lake Worth, Fla. - Junior Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) had three RBI in game two, but it wasn't enough as the Post University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Stonehill, 3-2 and 11-6.
The losses snapped a two game winning streak for the Eagles, who now stand at 4-8 on the season.
In game one, the Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Junior Brian McKenna (New York, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch, followed by an RBI single by freshman Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.).
Post held that lead until the bottom of the sixth until four straight hitters reached base for Stonehill. Ben Monte led off with a triple before Chris Hoyt reached on an error. After Hoyt swiped second base, Christian Baglini singled off starter, senior Don Crook (Meriden, Conn.) to tie the game, 2-2. Dan Fratus would give Stonehill the lead on a sacrifice fly that scored Baglini.
The Eagles would go down in order in the top of the seventh to give Stonehill the win.
Crook (1-2) pitched a complete game six innings giving up three runs - two earned - on four hits and one walk. He had one strikeout.
Armand Rugel (2-0) got the win for Stonehill, pitching a complete game seven innings, giving up two runs - one earned - on six hits. He struck out four.
Game Two
The bats came alive early and often in the second game as the Skyhawks scored two runs in the top of the first as Fratus had an RBI double and Brian Hocking drove in Fratus with a single.Â
Post answered immediately in its half of the first inning as a double by Rodriguez scored freshman Maxime Robillard (Blainville, Quebec) and sophomore Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.) to tie the game. A sacrifice fly from senior Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead.
Stonehill scored four more runs in the second and one more in the third to take a 7-3 lead. Hoyt had an RBI single and Brian Campbell had a two-run double in the second inning after Baglini reached on an error that scored Hoyt. Baglini would add an RBI single in the top of the third.
A sacrifice fly from Rodriguez cut the deficit to 7-4 in the bottom of the third, but the Skyhawks answered with a two-run single by Alex Hurley in the top of the fourth to give them a 9-4 lead.Â
The Eagles tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the fourth, as freshman Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) drove in a run as he hit into a double play. McKenna then reached on an error from Fratus, which scored freshman Trey Fitzgerald (Jupiter, Fla.).
Stonehill would tack on a run in the fifth and seventh innings for the final tally.
Steve Pike got the win in relief for Stonehill, pitching two innings and striking out one. Freshman Enzo Esposito (Hamilton, N.J.) got the loss. The starter gave up six runs - five earned - on four hits and three walks in 1 1/3 innings.
