Costello Has Stellar Outing In Post Win

McKenna Drives In Two

Lantana, Fla. - Junior Brian McKenna (New York, N.Y.) drove in two runs and grad student Mike Costello (Manassas, Va.) pitched seven strong innings as The Post University baseball team defeated LIU-Post, 2-1 on Friday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader.

With the win, the Eagles move to 3-6 on the season. LIU-Post falls to 0-1.

The game was a pitcher's duel for the first three innings before LIU-Post got on the board as Davis Groeneveld scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth inning. With runners on second and third with no outs, Costello was able to retire the next three batters on two groundouts and a line out. No one else would get on base for the rest of Costello's outing as he retired the final 12 batters he faced.

The Eagles scored their only runs in the bottom of the fifth as McKenna doubled to right field to score freshmen Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) and Maxime Robillard (Blainville, Quebec). McKenna finished 2-for-3 on the day.

Costello (1-0) finished his day giving up just one run - unearned - on three hits and a walk. He also struck out six. Grad student Zach Batchelor (Monroe Township, N.J.) recorded his second save of the season with two innings of scoreless relief.

Robert Paccione received the loss for LIU-Post, giving up two runs - one earned - on three hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out four.
