Derby, Esque Dealing as Eagles Sweep Felician

Post Improves to 3-1 in CACC Play

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team took both games in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Monday, Mar. 30. The Eagles now stand 3-1 in conference play and 7-9 overall.

Game One – Post 8, Felician 0 (F/5)
Senior Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) got the start in the circle in game one for the Eagles. She tossed five scoreless innings and allowed just four hits and one walk.

Post got started early when sophomore Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) tripled down the left field line in the first inning. First-year Korie McDonald (Middleboro, Mass.) slapped one at the second baseman to drive in the first run of the game.

The Eagles would strike again in the third inning posting six runs on four hits, and capitalizing on three Felician errors. Sophomore Kathryn Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) and junior Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) both collected RBIs in the inning. Dawson was a perfect three-for-three at the plate in the game.

Post tacked on another run in the bottom-half of the fourth set up by back-to-back doubles. Rookie of the Week Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) connected with a fastball to straightaway center to lead off the inning. Not to be outdone, junior Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) hit one to the same spot to drive in the eighth Eagle run.

Derby closed the door in the top-half of the fifth inning and retired three Falcons in order. Post defeated Felician in five innings and Derby picked up her second win of the season. Felician's Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y) was the losing pitcher and falls to 3-4 on the year.

Game Two – Dominican 4, Post 3 (F/8)
The Eagles handed the ball to junior Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) in the second game of the doubleheader. Esque pitched seven strong, allowed just two runs on two hits, and struck out five.

Both pitchers threw no-hitters through three innings of work, but it would be Felician to get on the board first in the fourth. With two outs, Taylor Parker (Surrey, B.C.) poked a single through the left side of the infield to drive in Amanda Lopez (Riverbank, Calif.) for the first run of the game.

Post did all of its damage in the bottom-half of the fourth inning pushing across four runs with situational base running and timely hitting. First-year Nicole Venturini (Scituate, R.I.) collected an RBI in the inning with a double to left field that drove in the speedy first-year, Amanda Ely (Pittsfield, Mass.).

The Falcons closed the deficit in the sixth inning compliments of a Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif.) solo shot to right center, but the Eagles would prevail and hang on for the 4-2 victory. Esque improves to 3-2 on the season, and Felician's Kaila Gerber falls to 0-1.

On Deck: The Eagles play host to the College of Saint Rose on Tuesday, Mar. 31. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
