Â
Philadelphia, Pa.. -Â A dominating pitching performance in game one, and a big comeback in game two propelled the Post University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon, 5-0 and 5-4.
The Eagles now move to 8-9 overall and 4-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. They are in second place in the conference.
The game was originally scheduled to be at LaMoy Field, but weather moved the game to Philadelphia. The Eagles were considered the home team in the game.
In game one, graduate student Zach Batchelor (Monroe Township, N.J.) pitched a complete game nine inning shutout, giving up just four hits and one walk while striking out five.Â
Both starters were pitching a shutout early on before sophomore Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) hit an RBI groundout to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.Â
In the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles opened up the floodgates, as an RBI single by senior Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) and a two-run double by freshman Luke Leonardi (Holbrook, N.Y.) upped the Eagles lead to 4-0.
A double steal in the bottom of the eighth in which freshman Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) stole second and senior Brian McKenna (New York, N.Y.) stole home, gave the Eagles a little added insurance.Â
Leonard, and Pastor finished 2-for-4 for the game and McKenna finished 2-for-3 with a walk.
Game Two
In game two, the Eagles and Rams played to a draw throughout the first three innings before Philadelphia erupted for a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Brandon Quaranta.
The Eagles answered with a run in the bottom half of the fourth inning after a sacrifice fly by freshman Maxime Robillard (Blainville, Quebec).
After the Rams had a scoreless fifth, the bats of Post came alive as junior Erik Rodriguex (Miami, Fla.) hit a two-run single scoring freshman Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) and Emigholz.
A walk from Rodriguez and a single from Pastor set the stage for Robillard again as he reached on a fielder's choice that scored freshman Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) to score. A throwing error by second baseman allowed Rodriguez to score to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead.Â
Starting sophomore Evan Devico (Waterbury, Conn.) pitched 3.2 innings, giving up four runs - three earned - on three hits and five walks. He struck out five.
Redshirt freshman Troy Terzi (Wallingford, Conn.) recorded the win pitching 4.1 innings in relief, giving up five hits while striking out four. Freshman Nick Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.) earned the save with one scoreless inning of relief.
