Late Comeback Falls Short At Nyack

Baez Ties Career-High With Five Goals

NYACK, N.Y. – After falling behind 9-3 late in the first half, the Post University women's lacrosse team outscored Nyack 8-4 in the second half, but fell 13-12 on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Eryka Baez (Clifton, N.J.) tied her career high with five goals on the day.

Baez won the opening draw for Post and found sophomore Shannon Young (Centereach, N.Y.) in the first minute of the game to put the Eagles in front 1-0. Nyack answered back with four goals to jump ahead 4-1. Baez cut the deficit to 4-3 with 14:39 left in the first two straight goals, the last score assisted by senior Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.).

Nyack's Karly and Karis Walborn scored four of the Warriors' next five goals as the Eagles fell behind 9-3. The sisters combined for 10 goals on the day. Baez added a late goal as Post headed into the break down 9-4.

Young scored her third of the day with 11:59 remaining to put the Eagles within two at 10-8, but Nyack continued to score and led 13-9 with 7:44 left. The Post defense would lock down from there and did not allow another shot the rest of the game.

Baez scored her final goal of the game at the 5:36 mark of the second and Polaski won the ensuing draw and quickly cut the lead to 13-11. Freshman Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) brought Post within one score with 3:33 left. The Eagles had three shots over the final minutes but were unable to score the tying goal.

Nyack held a slight 31-29 advantage in shot, but the Eagles outshot the Warriors 18-15 in the second half. Baez and Polaski led Post with two caused turnovers each and combined for seven of the Eagles' nine draw controls.

Post returns to action on Saturday afternoon at home against Wilmington. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
