Women’s Lacrosse Falls To Caldwell 12-9 In CACC Opener

Polaski Scores Four Goals, Young Adds Three

WATERBURY, Conn. – For the second time in five days the Post University women's lacrosse team was on the losing end in a match to Caldwell. On Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field the Cougars defeated the Eagles 12-9 in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener.

Caldwell took an early lead as Daniela Costanzo scored on a free-position attempt in the opening minutes. Sophomore Shannon Young (Centereach, N.Y.) tied the game on the Eagles' next possession, her first of three goals on the afternoon. The visitors jumped in front 4-1 with 21:05 left in the first with three straight scores.

Senior Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) ended the run with a man-advantage goal with 15:50 left. She added another score off a pass from freshman Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) to cut the deficit to 4-3. Post quickly tied the score 4-4. After winning the ensuing draw, Young beat the keeper for the tying score.

The teams traded goals down the stretch but Costanzo capped the half with her second goal of the game to put Caldwell in front 7-6 on the break.

The Cougars scored twice to open the second and take their largest lead at 9-6. Rodriguez scored with 23:00 left to bring the Eagles within two, but they were unable to get any closer. Polaski and Young each added goals down the stretch. Post had three shots over the final 6:37 but weren't able to score.

Graduate goalkeeper Kathy Walker (Dorchester, Mass.) made 11 saves on the day. Caldwell held a 35-25 advantage in groundballs. Polaski had six for Post. Senior Eryka Baez (Clifton, N.J.) had a game-high four draw controls.
