Eagles Dominate Fourth Quarter In 12-9 Victory Over Notre Dame de Namur

Buchas and McDermott Score Four Goals Each

WATERBURY, Conn. – Down 7-5 after three quarters the Post University men's lacrosse team scored seven goals in the fourth to earn a 12-9 over Notre Dame de Namur on a rainy Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field. The Eagles improve to 2-4 on the season.

Sophomore Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) got the comeback started with his third goal of the game just 38 seconds into the final quarter off an assist from classmate Kyle Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) to cut the deficit to 7-6.

Post killed off a penalty and regained possession after a turnover by the Argonauts. Freshman Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) tied the game with his first of two goals on the day with 12:09 left. The Eagles quickly took the lead for the first time since the first quarter just 30 seconds later as junior Colby Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) beat the keeper to make the score 8-7.

Notre Dame tied the game with 8:42 left, but Treat found McDermott and sophomore Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) for back-to-back goals to put the Eagles back in front 10-8. The Argonauts added a late score, but Nichols Jr. and Buchas answered back to put the game away.

The Eagles looked like they were going to run away with it early. Notre Dame struck first in the opening minutes. Post responded with three straight goals to jump in front 3-1. The Argonauts got on track from there with five goals in a row, two by Devin LaPorte, to pull ahead 6-3. Post cut the lead to one heading in the third, but Notre Dame added a goal at the end of the quarter.

Post had its best game in the face-off circle, winning 15 on the day, including eight in the final quarter. Sophomore Chris Cruz (Wayne, N.J.) was 12-of-18 on face-offs. The Eagles held a 46-38 advantage in ground balls. Junior Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) grabbed a team-high eight.

Senior Anthony DeRosa (Toms River, N.J.) made 15 saves and faced 29 shots. The Eagles had 43 shots and 24 on goal. Treat had a goal and three assists. Buchas and McDermott each had four goals.

The Eagles visit Dominican on Thursday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m.
