Waterbury, Conn. - Junior Shane McKay (Hempstead, N.Y.) and sophomores Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) and Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) each scored two goals apiece, but it wasn't enough as the Post University men's lacrosse team lost to Franklin Pierce, 13-7 at LaMoy Field.
The Eagles now move to 1-4 on the season.
Post came out firing in the first period, scoring the first five goals of the game, as Buchas picked up a ground ball and scored with 12:27 left in the first half. Less than a minute later, Post would win the face off and McKay would score his first of the game to put the Eagles up 2-0.Â
The next score came with 10:08 remaining as McDermott picked up a ground ball and put it past goalkeeper, Don Denman. With 8:25 left, Buchas scored his second goal after senior Matt Edwin (Stamford, Conn.) picked up a ground ball 24 seconds earlier. The first four goals of the game were unassisted.
The final goal for the Eagles in the first half came from McDermott, who took a pass from senior Andrew Supanich (Manassas, Va.) and put it past Denman.
Franklin Pierce would get on the board with 2:12 left as Sean Delea scored on a pass from Brenden Caldeira.
The Ravens would then score the next two goals as Eddie Noonan and Delea would score 18 seconds apart.
Post would answer with McKay's second goal of the game with just one minute remaining in the second period to go up, 6-3.
In the third period, the Ravens would try to close the gap again as Delea would score with just under two minutes having gone by in the period. Jack Carney would then score his first of two goals in the game with 8:19 remaining, making the score, 6-5.
The Eagles weren't ready to give up their lead as sophomore Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) would score his fifth goal of the season, making the score 7-5. Carney would score his second goal on a pass from Malcolm Sutton with 3:57 left to make it a 7-6 game going into the fourth period.
In the fourth period, however, Franklin Pierce's offense came alive, scoring seven goals in the period, Delea would score two more goals, as would Noonan. Kelly, Casey Burnett and Sutton scored the other three goals.
Up next for the Eagles is a home game against Notre Dame De Namur University at 1 p.m. on March 14.
