Men’s Lacrosse Defeated At AIC, 9-6

Buchas and McDermott With Two Goals Each



SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Post University men's lacrosse team fell to 0-3 on Saturday afternoon as it lost a road contest at American International 9-6. Sophomores Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) and Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) each scored twice for the Eagles for the second straight game.
 
The Yellow Jackets struck first early in the game. Post was called for a penalty less than a minute in and AIC's Bobby Spano scored to put the home team in front 1-0. Sophomore Andrew D'Angelo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) forced one of his team-high two turnovers on the next possession. After a shot by Post, junior Colby Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) grabbed the ground ball and beat the keeper to tie the score.
 
American International scored another man-up goal with 7:40 left in the first to go in front 2-1. Post won the ensuing face-off. After three shot attempts by the Eagles, Buchas beat the keeper and knotted the game 2-2.
 
The Eagles won the opening face-off of the second, but quickly turned it over. Post gained possession back and McDermott scored to give the Eagles their only lead of the afternoon at 3-2. The Yellow Jackets scored two quick goal to go back in front 4-3. Each team had chances midway through the quarter, but AIC took a two-goal lead with 2:53 left. They added one more as time expired in the half to pull ahead 6-3 at the break.
 
Post forced a turnover after the face-off to start the third. Freshman Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) found McDermott for a goal that cut the deficit to 6-4. The teams traded shots throughout the rest of the quarter but AIC was able to break through with a goal.
 
Buchas scored his second with 6:58 left in the game to make the score 8-5. Senior Anthony DeRosa (Toms River, N.J.) made a save for the Eagles and they cleared it into their offensive end.  Junior Shane McKay (Hempstead, N.Y.) scored to cut the deficit to two with 4:32 left. AIC added a late man-up goal.
 
Post held a 33-32 advantage in shot and had 23 attempts on goal. D'Angelo and Treat each had a team-high three ground balls on the afternoon. The Eagles converted on all 22 of their clear attempts.
 
DeRosa had 10 saves in the cage.
 
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, March 4 on the road at Ohio Valley. Face-off is set for 4:30 p.m.
