WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University baseball team heads back to North Carolina this weekend as it takes on Alderson Broaddus in three games. The Eagles opened their season last weekend with two close losses at Chowan. The Battlers have not yet played this year. Post is 0-3 against Alderson Broaddus all-time, but the teams have not faced since 2003.

Enzo Esposito (Hamilton, N.J.) came in to pitch in the fifth inning and shut the Rams down in order. He didn't allow a hit and finished with six strikeouts in three innings.

Post put two runners on the in the ninth but were unable to score. Will Gurganus drove in the winning run in the bottom of the inning with a deep double to center. Eight of the Eagles' nine starters recorded a hit in the loss.

In game two, the Hawks pulled in front in the first once again, this time on a two-run home run by Blake Eure. Senior
Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) drew a walk in the second inning. He stole second and third and came home to score on a throwing error by the catcher. Chowan extended its lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the inning with a two-out single.

The Eagles closed the gap to one in the fourth. Pastor smashed a double down the left field line in the fifth to tie the score 4-4. Chowan added one run in the fifth and two in the sixth. Post put two runners on with no outs in the top of seventh but were unable to push across any runs.

SCOUTING THE BATTLERSAlderson Broaddus was selected to finish fourth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) this season. Last year the Battlers finished with an overall record of 29-20 and were 15-9 in conference play, good for a third-place finish. The team returns four All-GMAC performers from a year ago. Daniel Essian started 43 games behind the dish for the Battlers last season. He batted .318 with 35 runs scored along with 14 RBI SophomoreÂ
Marquis Collier posted a .325 batting average driving in 39 runs and scoring 18. Travis Hurley drove in a team-leading 42 runs to go with 30 runs scored and a .318 average. Randy Dobnak made eight starts holding opponents to a .236 batting average. He also tallied a 2.29 ERA in 51 innings while piling up 53 strikeouts.

THE STREAK CONTINUESJunior
Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) is currently riding a 17-game hitting streak that dates back to the 2013 season. He finished 2013 with hits in 15 straight games and after sitting out last season, opened 2014 with two hits in the each game against Chowan. During the streak Rodriguez is batting .481 (26-54) with nine RBI, five doubles, 11 walks, and nine multi-hit games.

HONORED BY THE CACCErik Rodriguez was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week last week for his performance against Chowan. The junior went 4-for-6 with two doubles and two RBI in the series. Freshman Enzo Espositio (Hamilton, N.J.) earned Pitcher of the Week honors. In his first collegiate appearance, he threw three innings of shutout relief allowing just one walk and striking out six batters.

PRESEASON POSITIONINGPost was picked fourth in the CACC Preseason Poll, receiving 76 points. Last year's regular season champion Wilmington was picked atop the poll. The Wildcats earned 119 points and nine first-place votes. CACC Tournament Champion, Felician, was slotted second with 110 points and two first-place votes. The Eagles also received three votes in the NCBWA East Region Poll.

ON THE HORIZONThe Eagles head to Florida for seven games during spring break beginning on Saturday, Feb. 28. Post will play Lynn, Felician, LIU-Post, Nyack, and Stonehill during the week.
