WATERBURY, Conn. – Behind 23 points from sophomore
Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.), the Post University men's basketball team defeated Pace 72-58 on Thursday afternoon. The win is the Eagles second against a Northeast-10 opponent as they improve to 8-4 on the season.
Desrosiers finished 7-of-16 from behind the arc to lead all scorers. Freshman
Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) posted 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Junior
Malcolm Amos (Brookport, Ill.) and sophomore
Jah'sheme Ringgold (Easton, Md.) each added 10 points.
Post looked to grab control early in the first half with back-to-back threes from Desrosiers off assists from senior
David Seymour (Amityville, N.Y.). After the second, the Eagles played lockdown defense on the other end to force a shot clock violation. Amos made a jumper on the other end as Post took its largest lead of the half at 12-6 with 15:18 left.
The Setters responded with a 6-0 run to tie the score as the teams fought back and forth the remainder of the half. With the score tied 20-20 with 5:38 left, Okros nailed a jumper from the corner as Post grabbed the lead back and took a 28-24 advantage into the break.
The Eagles never trailed the rest of the way. Pace closed the gap to five, the closest it would get, with 16:34 left in the game and called a timeout. Out of the break, Seymour found Desrosiers behind the arc on Post's next two possessions to build its largest lead to that point at 40-31 and force another timeout. Seymour finished with eight assists.
Post continued to extend its advantage with a 16-4 run midway through the half and led 50-33 with 10:17 left. Shelton Mickell tried to bring Pace back into it with a 6-0 run on his own that cut the deficit to nine, but the Setters would not get closer.
The Eagles had a season-high 18 assists on the afternoon.
Post returns to action on Wednesday, January 6 at home against Chestnut Hill. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
