BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Senior
Brandt Voiles (Byron, Ill.) hit a three as time expired in the second half to send the Post University men's basketball team to overtime against LIU Post on Saturday at the LIU Post Thanksgiving Classic. The Eagles prevailed 81-77 in the extra period to improve to 2-2.
The game-tying bucket was the only three attempt by Voiles in the second half as he finished with nine points on the day. Sophomore
Isaiah Kemp (Astoria, N.Y.) led the Eagles with 16 points.
Post trailed 65-60 with 2:38 left in the second half after the Pioneers scored a fast-break layup off a turnover. Kemp cut the deficit to two with 1:11 remaining with a three-pointer. LIU Post pulled in front by three after a made free-throw.
Freshman
Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) missed a tie attempt from distance and with seven seconds left Post was forced to foul. Greg Dotson missed both free-throw attempts to and sophomore
Joseph Lockwood (London, England) grabbed the rebound for Post. Sophomore
Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) found Voiles for the three as time expired to send the game to overtime at 66-66.
After falling behind by two early in the extra period a three-pointer by sophomore
Jah'sheme Ringgold (Easton, Md.) gave Post the lead with 3:28 left. LIU Post tied the game up again at 77-77 with 35 ticks left. Lockwood hit a jumper on the other end and Ringgold made two late free-throws to give the Eagles the road victory.
Post led through most of the first half and used a 14-2 stretch midway through the period to pull in front 35-21. The Pioneers would chop the lead in half by the break as the Eagles led 35-28 at halftime.
LIU Post took its first lead of the second half at 39-37 with 13:05 remaining after a three by Dotson. Desrosiers nailed a three to grab the lead back at 48-46, but the Pioneers answered and led by as many as five down the stretch before Voiles' heroics.
Three other Eagles finished in double-digits along with Kemp. Ringgold added 14 point off the pine. Sophomore
Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) had 13 points and eight rebounds. Lockwood chipped in 11 points and seven boards. Post made a season-high 11 three-pointers, led by Kemp with four.
The Eagles close out the weekend against NYIT tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
