LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Post University women's volleyball team advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship game with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Wilmington on Friday afternoon. Junior
Skylar German recorded a career-high 29 kills to go with 16 digs.
After alternating wins in each of the first two sets, the Eagles won the fifth 15-11 to advance. Three early errors by Post gave Wilmington a 3-1 advantage, but the Eagles scored four straight from there to jump in front 5-3. Post would not trail again and with the score 9-7 used a 5-0 run to lead up to match point. German and junior
Morgan Griffin each had a kill and block during the run.
The Wildcats scored four straight to force a timeout by Post, but German smashed home the final kill to send the Eagles to the championship.
Post dropped a tough first set 27-25 and fell behind 7-2 to start the second. The Eagles grabbed momentum with a 12-3 run from there to jump ahead 14-10 advantage. Senior
Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) scored three kills and an ace during the comeback. Post continued to roll to a 25-20 victory to tie the match. Wilmington took the third set 25-20 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Eagles never trailed in the fourth set on their way to a 25-18 victory. A point by German made the score 11-6 and forced a timeout by Wilmington. Out of the break the Wildcats cut the Post advantage to four, but would never get any closer. German and
Morgan Griffin combined for 13 kills in the set.
Freshman
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) recorded a career-hih 67 assists to go with 17 digs and two kills.
Morgan Griffin had 16 kills and 24 digs.
Hailey Griffin had 10 kills and 22 digs while senior
Kristine Ripson (Youngstown, N.Y.) smashed 12 kills. Senior
Janiellee Alvarez recorded 29 digs.
As a team Post set season-highs in kills (75), attacks (234), assists (74), and digs (117).
Post will take on Bloomfield in the CACC Championship game on Saturday at noon. The Bears took down Philadelphia 3-1 in the other semifinal. The Eagles and Bears split the season series with each other.
