Post Men’s Basketball Defeated By Assumption 69-63 at Stonehill Tip-Off

Comeback Falls Short For Second Straight Game

EASTON, Mass. – For the second game in a row, the Post University men's basketball team cut a double-digit second half deficit to four as the Eagles fell to Assumption 69-63 on Saturday afternoon in the Stonehill Tip-Off Classic. Sophomore Joseph Lockwood (London, England) posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The teams traded baskets to start the game and a layup by junior Malcom Amos (Brookport, Ill.) put Post in front 9-8 with 12:47 left in the first half. Assumption gained control of the half with a 13-0 run and led 29-13. The Eagles battled back and a jumper by sophomore Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) cut the deficit to single-digits late in the period, but Post trailed 34-22 at the half.

Post was unable to chip away at the deficit early on in the second half, but a layup by freshman Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) with 4:29 left sparked a 10-4 run that made the score 64-60 late. Okros bookended the run with a three and finished with 11 points.

After Assumption jumped ahead by seven in the final minutes, sophomore Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) nailed a three in the closing seconds to cut the lead to four but the Greyhounds held on for the victory.

Amos scored 12 points to go with a game-high two steals. Lockwood added three blocks on the day and was 7-for-8 from the line. Mareno scored nine points off the bench. Post won the rebounding battle 45-33 and grabbed 21 offensive rebounds.

Post opens Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Wednesday night at Bloomfield. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
