EASTON, Mass. – The Post University men's basketball team fell at Stonehill 80-67 on Friday night to open its 2015-16 campaign. Junior
Malcolm Amos (Brookport, Ill.) led the Eagles with 15 points on the night.
Post found itself behind early in the first half.
Shea Agboola nailed a three off a dish from Amos with 12:25 left in the first half to give the Eagles their only lead of the game at 10-9. Stonehill took a six-point lead later in the half, but a trey by sophomore
Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) cut the deficit to 22-19.
The Skyhawks pulled away from there with a 10-0 run with seven points coming from Carter Smith as they took a 40-27 lead into the half.
Stonehill looked like it was going to run away at the start of the second as it extended its lead to 52-29. Post would not go down easily as freshman
Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) nailed a three to spark a 14-0 run. The Eagles were 4-for-4 from distance during the stretch with two jumpers by senior
Brandt Voiles (Byron, Ill.) as they closed the gap to 52-43 with 14:43 left to play.
Post continued to chip away with its outside shooting. Desrosiers and sophomore
Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) hit back-to-back jumpers to make the score 59-55 with 11:39 remaining, but the rally ended there. Stonehill answered with ten straight points and led by double-digits the rest of the way.
Desrosiers had 14 points off the bench. Voiles and Mareno each finished with 11 points. Sophomore
Joseph Lockwood (London, England) grabbed a team-high nine boards. The Eagles had 12 offensive boards which led to 13 second-chance points. Ryan Logan (30) and Smith (21) combined for 51 points for Stonehill.
Post returns to action at the Stonehill Tip-Off Classic tomorrow afternoon against Assumption. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
