SHELTON, Conn. – In front of a packed house at the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton on Friday night, the Post University men's ice hockey team fell to Eastern Connecticut 7-3 in its home opener. The Eagles are 1-1 on the year.
Freshman
Peter Petrino (Derby, Conn.) was involved in all three goals for the Eagles, netting two and assisting on another. Freshman
Joe Giannini III (Branford, Conn.) was responsible for the other goal for Post.
ECSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and never looked back. Late in the second period Giannini beat the Warriors' keeper on a power play to put Post on the board. Sophomore
Dave Canfarotta and Petrino assisted on the goal.
The teams combined for six goals in the final period. After an early score by ECSU, Petrino cut the deficit to 4-2 just over a minute later. Canfarotta tallied his second assist of the night and senior
Brian Beatson (Falls Church, Va.) added a helper.
Canfarotta connected with Petrino once again late in the period for the final tally.
The Eagles were outshot 39-24 on the night. Beatson had seven shots for Post. Freshman goaltender
Cameron Barbieri (Thomaston, Conn.) made 32 saves.
Post returns to action tomorrow afternoon at home against Central Connecticut. Puck drops at 1 p.m.
