WATERBURY, Conn. – Behind a 17-kill, 11-dig performance from senior
Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) the Post University volleyball team defeated Bloomfield 3-1 to extend its lead atop Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division. The Eagles are now 14-5 overall and 7-1 in CACC play.
The Bears jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the opening set and led 15-11 before four straight points by Post tied the score. Griffin and junior
Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) each had a kill and dig as the Eagles closed the gap. With the set tied at 22, Post reeled off four points to take the victory capped with an ace by junior
Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) and kill by Griffin.
Bloomfield took an early lead in the second set until an 8-1 run by Post gave the home team a 10-6 lead. The Bears battled back to tie the score 11-11, but the Eagles answered with another run. Junior
Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) served up an ace to give Post a 17-12 lead and force a Bloomfield timeout. With the Eagles holding set point, the Bears scored four straight before German smashed a kill to end the threat.
Post dropped the third set 25-23 as it came back within one point late after trailing by as many as six points.
The Eagles looked to run away with the fourth set, jumping in front 9-4.
Hailey Griffin had three early kills. Errors by Post allowed the Bears back into the game as the visitors took a 15-14 lead. Bloomfield was ahead 21-19, but Post allowed just one point the rest of the match to come away with the win. German teamed with Brown and freshman
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) for blocks on the final two points.
German had 15 kills and seven blocks.
Morgan Griffin added 14 kills and 10 digs. Senior
Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) had 28 digs, her third 20-dig match of the year. Root put up 47 assists.
The Eagles are at Georgian Court on Saturday for a tri-match with the Lions and Pace. First match begins at 11 a.m.
