Nyack, N.Y. – Senior Lexxi Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) scored two goals and sophomore Angela Ciaramella (Hamden, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season to help lead the Post University women's soccer team to a win over Nyack in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles move to 6-4-1 on the season and 6-1-1 in the CACC. Nyack moves to 1-8-1 overall and 1-4 in the CACC. Most importantly, the Eagles clinched a playoff spot with the win.
Carroll opened the scoring with a goal in the 34th minute off of a pass from sophomore Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany) to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead which they would preserve going into the half. The goal was her fifth of the season.
It wasn't long after the second half started before Post would strike again. This time, sophomore Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) took a feed from freshman Alex Moeller (Norderstedt, Germany) and put it in the net to give Post a 2-0 lead in the 48th minute
Carroll tacked on her second goal of the game in the 74th minute before Ciaramella sealed it with her goal in the 89th minute.
But the story was Carroll, according to coach Matt Micros. "Lexxi was terrific today. She was the story; two goals coming out of the midfield." Micros said. "Nyack worked hard and didn't quit. It is a testament to their coaches. Kept working even when they were down. There was no quit in that team."
Senior goalkeeper Laura Morgan (Brush Prairie, Wash.) finished with seven saves on the day for the Eagles. Both teams had 13 shots total.
"It's always a good day when you win on the road, everyone plays and no one gets injured," Micros said. The win clinches a playoff spot for us, which was our first goal this year. Next we will be able to see if we can get a top four seed and a home game."
Up next for the Eagles is a home game against Oct. 13 at LaMoy Field at 3 p.m.
