Eagles Defeat Franklin Pierce 2-0 For Fifth Straight Win

Moura and Asante Score for Post

RINDGE, N.H. – The Post University men's soccer team won its fifth straight game on Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory over Northeast-10 foe Franklin Pierce in Rindge, N.H. The Eagles improve to 7-4 on the year.

Senior Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.) put the Eagles in front with his second goal of the year in the 43rd minute. After a turnover by the Ravens in their own box, Moura took control of the ball and booted it to the top-left corner of the net from 15-yards out.

Franklin Pierce kept the pressure on the Eagles throughout the second half and had five corner kicks over the course of seven minutes of play, but the Post defense stood strong.

Graduate student Anthony Asante (Bronx, N.Y.) gave the Eagles some insurance in the 76th minute as he beat the keeper from the top of the box for his team-high eighth goal of the year. Franklin Pierce had three late shots on goal, but junior Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) stopped them all for his third shutout.

Senior Francisco Sastre (Sao Paolo, Brazil) had four shots for the Eagles, who were outshot 16-13 on the night.

Post welcomes #17 LIU-Post to LaMoy Field on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. The Eagles defeated the then-#1 Pioneers in the last matchup between the two in 2013.
