WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six games on Saturday with a 1-1 draw with #17 LIU-Post at LaMoy Field. Sophomore
Stefan Tomasevic (London, England) scored the tying goal in the 83
rd minute.
"I'm proud with the overall effort by the guys today. While we were not at our best, it's great to get a result against a nationally-ranked team like LIU-Post," said head coach
Ted Haley.
The Pioneers struck first in the 67
th minute as Harry Pearce lead a pass to Jason Lampkin in the Eagles' box. Lampkin chipped it just over the head of junior goalkeeper
Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) for the score.
Post put the pressure on from there and had two great chances as a shot by senior
Francisco Sastre (Sao Paolo, Brazil) hit the post and a header by graduate student
Anthony Asante (Bronx, N.Y.) was saved by a Pioneer defender.
Seconds after the Asante shot, junior
Abdallah Bah (Kenema, Sierra Leone) launched a corner kick and found Tomasevic in a crowd in front of the net for the tying score.
The Eagles defense withstood a barrage of corner kick attempts in the first overtime and Hanlon made three of his season-high 10 save in the period. Post had a great chance in the final period, but a header by senior
Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.) went wide in the closing minutes.
The draw is Post's first since the 2013 season as the Eagles now stand at 7-4-1 on the year.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday afternoon at home against Felician. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
