Sastre OT Goal Leads Post Over Nyack 4-3

Eagles Close Regular Season At 11-5-1

NYACK, N.Y. – The Post University men's soccer team closed out the regular season in dramatic fashion on Friday afternoon with a 4-3 double-overtime victory over Nyack. Senior Francisco Sastre (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored the winner in the 103rd minute as the Eagles head into the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament 8-1-1 in their last 10 games.

"I have been telling Chico [Sastre] he's due for a big goal and am very excited that he got the game-winner. Hopefully he has more to come as we enter the postseason," said head coach Ted Haley.

Sophomore Stefan Tomasevic (London, England) started the scoring early with his fifth goal of the season in the 9th minute to put Post in front 1-0. Nyack tied the game in the 33rd minute as Reinaldo Sanchez scored for the Warriors.

The match was not tied for long as just 34 seconds later senior Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.) took a pass from Tomasevic off a set piece an buried it to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead at halftime. Nyack, who needed a win to stay in the tournament hunt, tied the score at two early in the second half.

The Eagles' all-time assists leader, Sastre, added another to his total in the 70th minute as he found senior Tiago Martins (Lamas de Olo, Portugal) for the go-ahead goal. The Warriors tied the match in the 89th minute to send it to extra time.

Each team had a shot on goal in the first overtime period, but the score remained tied 3-3. After a corner kick by Nyack, Post took the ball quick up the field and freshman Matteo Moro (Rome, Italy) hit Sastre for the game-winner.

"I'm really proud of the guy's effort. It was a very tough day to keep the ball and get rhythm on a difficult field against a big and physical Nyack team. We had to grind all day but we found a way," added Haley.

Post returns to action on Monday in the CACC Quarterfinals. The second-seeded Eagles will host #7 Concordia at LaMoy Field at 2 p.m.
