Post Clinches Second Seed With 4-2 Win Over Bloomfield

Asante scores twice in win

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's soccer team defeated Bloomfield 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon in its final home match of the regular season. With the win, the Eagles clinch the second seed in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament which begins on Monday.

Sophomore Vinicius Lelis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) found senior Tiago Martins (Lamas del Olo, Portugal) on a long lead pass in the 8th minute to put Post in front early. Lelis has now recorded a point in three of the last four games.

Junior Abdallah Bah (Kenema, Sierra Leone) extended the Eagles' advantage in the 21st minute as he booted home the rebound after a header by sophomore Stefan Tomasevic (London, England) was narrowly saved by the Bears' keeper.

In the 30th minute, senior Donald Fossie (Yaounde, Cameroon) launched a long pass up to graduate student Anthony Asante (Bronx, N.Y.). Bloomfield goalkeeper Jovan Stanojkovic whiffed on a clear attempt and Asante easily put Post in front 3-0.

Bloomfield made the game interesting in the second half with goals by Odane Gray and Paulo Claudio to cut the Post lead to 3-2. Asante added some insurance for the Eagles in the 78th minute as he headed home a lofted pass from Bah that was fed from senior Francisco Sastre (Sao Paulo, Brazil)

Prior to the match the eight senior members of the Eagles were honored for their accomplishments. Head coach Ted Haley had nothing but good words about his veterans. "I'm extremely proud of the senior class. They have all made their mark on the program and have been a part of the best times we've had here. "These guys have enjoyed being top-10 team, winning an ECAC title, and hopefully getting back to the NCAA Tournament."

The Eagles held an 18-16 advantage in total shots while each squad had 11 chances on goal. Junior goalkeeper Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) made nine saves for Post.

Post closes out the regular season on the road against Nyack on Friday at 2 p.m.
